THE CHARTER: A UNIVERSAL CONSENSUS

In 2015 a group of paediatric Palliative Care experts and representatives from the major religions in the world worked together to draw up the “Religions of the World Charter for Palliative Care dedicated to children”.

Following this important initiative, they took into consideration another fragile portion of society: older people with chronic and incurable illness.

In 2017 the Religions of the World Charter for Palliative Care for Older People was born.

Religions are diffused throughout the world, and for their recognized moral authority, they can help us to sustain and promote the universal right to Palliative Care in order to:

  • affirm the right to Palliative Care for all older people with chronic and incurable illness
  • reinforce that the relief from pain is a moral and religious obligation
  • promote Palliative Care with political leaders and policy makers in order to make them become an integral part of all national healthcare systems
  • sustain global action for the spreading of Palliative Care involving leaders and representatives of all world’s religions

SIGN THE CHARTER AND JOIN US IN SUPPORTING PALLIATIVE CARE FOR OLDER PEOPLE

Every older person with chronic or incurable illness has the right to receive Palliative Care.

The goal of Palliative Care is to take care of the person in totality even when there is no longer a cure. This care foresees a team of different and diverse professional figures: doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social and religious assistants helping patients and their families.

Palliative Care is not a palliative.

Together we have the opportunity to spread the meaning and the profound value of Palliative Care and sensitize every country so that it may become an integral part of every national healthcare system.
